Nice Alternative, Friendly Patrons!
Club Charles is a very cool spot. Very art-deco, Miami rock vibe mixed with a futuristic TV studio feeling. Its classic, with a soul that is upscale. Mostly Caucasian patronage (and straight), with a variety of looks (African American, Asian, Latino etc) - without drama - an evolved, confident urban scene. Great prices, with themed drink specials. The jukebox is retro, with classic rock, avant-rock and alternative tunes, 'Beatles Hits', and even music from Milton Nascimento and James Brown. The upper level has vintage booths (with a second bar), and a darker 1940s' intimacy. The staff and busy Bartenders are friendly, and acknowledge you. When school's in - its more college-y, scenesters. Lots of 20+ Artists, Writers and Bohemian types. Try this place!
John Waters style kitsch
I love Club Charles! Cool 1940s Art Deco lounge atmosphere. It can get a little crowded, and the drinks can be a little on the expensive side. But SO worth it. I've heard a rumor that John Waters has been spotted at Club Charles, but I can't conform that.
